Aqualung Squeeze Dive Knives: Micro, Small or Big?

Every diver should carry a cutting tool. You will probably never need it. But if you ever get tangled in fishing line or a net, you will be very glad it is there.

Aqualung makes its Squeeze knives in three sizes: Micro, Small and Big. They work the same way. The real question is which size fits the way you dive.

How the Squeeze lock works

The knife locks into its sheath. To pull it out, you squeeze the ridged handle.

That is the whole idea. It comes out when you want it to, and it stays put when you don't. Aqualung says it is nearly impossible to unsheathe by accident, so it won't slide out while you climb a ladder or roll off a boat.

Micro Squeeze: small enough to forget it's there

Overall length: 3 3/4 inches
Blade length: 2 inches
Blade: 304 stainless steel
Tips: blunt or sheep's foot

This is the smallest of the three. It is light enough to clip onto a dive computer wrist strap or a spot on your BCD, and you will barely notice it.

It is a good fit if you want a backup knife, or if you hate gear that gets in the way.

Small Squeeze: the one most divers will like

Overall length: 7 inches
Blade length: 3 1/2 inches
Blade: 304 stainless steel or titanium beta-alloy, depending on the tip
Tips: blunt, sheep's foot or spear

Aqualung built this one to stay out of your way and work with most BCs. It has a bigger blade than the Micro, so you get more to work with if you need it.

If you are buying one knife, this is a solid place to start.

Big Squeeze: the full-size option

Overall length: 9 1/2 inches
Blade length: 4 1/2 inches
Blade: 304 stainless steel or beta titanium alloy
Tips: blunt, sheep's foot or spear

This is the largest Squeeze. The longer blade and bigger handle give you more to grab and more to cut with.

It suits divers who want the biggest tool on their kit and don't mind the extra length.

Which tip should you pick?

Blunt tip: No sharp point, so it is less likely to poke a hole in your gear. A good pick for most recreational divers.

Sheep's foot: Also a non-pointed tip, with a straight cutting edge.

Spear tip: A pointed tip for divers who want one.

Stainless steel or titanium?

Aqualung offers stainless steel and titanium blades depending on the model and tip. Stainless is a proven choice. Titanium is a step up if you want a different blade material. Ask us which options are in the shop, and we will show you the difference.

Where does it go on your gear?

The sheaths are made to mount several ways:

  • On your BCD through the grommets
  • On a belt with a 2 inch locking clip
  • On rubber leg straps (sold separately) on the Small and Big Squeeze
  • On a dive computer wrist strap (Micro Squeeze)

Each sheath has drain holes, which makes it easier to slide the knife back in. The handles also have a hole for a lanyard.

Quick pick guide

  • Want it small and light? Go Micro.
  • Want one knife that fits most setups? Go Small.
  • Want the most blade? Go Big.
