Altitude Diving

Pennsylvania has plenty of high-elevation lakes and quarries — and diving them safely means understanding how altitude changes the rules. SSI's Altitude Diving specialty teaches you to plan and execute safe dives above 1,000 feet in a single one-night course.

The SSI Altitude Diving program at Get-N-Wet Scuba is a specialty course that prepares divers for safe diving at elevations above 1,000 feet (300 meters). It teaches divers how to plan dives at altitude, including the adjustments needed to calculate bottom time, decompression stops, and other aspects of dive planning. This course is designed to be a one-night course with a certified instructor.

You'll learn how altitude impacts air density and how that affects breathing and decompression, techniques for calculating bottom time and decompression stops at altitude, and how to properly set and use dive computers with altitude correction settings — followed by in-water training to practice everything you've learned. Prerequisites: minimum age 10, and a Referral Diver certification (or above) from a recognized training agency. The payoff is safer diving at higher elevations, more confidence in challenging environments, and access to more dive sites, including high-altitude lakes and rivers.
